Microgreens and Wheatgrass have many different benefits for your body, but did you know that they have benefits for the Earth too?

For the year 2020, Earth Overshoot Day landed on August 22nd. And though this is an improvement from 2019, there is still much to improve on. As farmers, naturally, we contribute to the greenhouse effect, but, as a company, we’re dedicated to reducing our carbon footprint as much as possible.

What is Earth Overshoot Day? Overshoot Day marks the date when the demand for natural resources exceeds what Earth can regenerate in that year. The remainder of the year corresponds to global overshoot.

Below are some of the many ways these superfoods help our environment too!

#1 Composted Soil

When we have left over product, we make sure it doesn’t go to waste. Rather than throw our leftovers into the trash bin, we properly compost and add it back into our soil. Not only does this help lessen the greenhouse effect but it also adds extra nutrients back into our soil and then our products!

#2 Less Wasted Water

Did you know that to grow one full broccoli crop, it can take up to 11 gallons of water? Not only is the microgreen version of broccoli more nutrient dense but it also can take only a few cups of water to grow one serving of microgreens.

#3 Local = Sustainable

Unlike most farms that ship their products out across the country, we keep our products local. Our main focus is to provide the best for our customers and our environment. Though we do still ship across the country, mainly serving locally we reduce our carbon footprint by lessening our use of fossil fuels.

Next time you shop, keep in mind if you’re supporting eco-friendly. Supporting local eco-conscious farmers such as Perfect Foods Inc ensures that we can #MoveTheDate of Earth Overshoot Day and better the environment as a whole.
